Niu : 3-Wheeled Electric Scooter

China constructor NIU, unveiled an impressive tricycle scooter called the TQi-GT, which balances on its own, featuring self-driving features. According to the manufacturer, this model allows any driver to move quickly through the city, regardless of their experience with a motorcycle.

Niu TQi-GT is the brand’s first three-wheeled (in 2 + 1 position) electric scooter with the self-balancing system. Equivalent to a 125cc scooter, The TQi-GT is powered by a 10kW (13.4 hp) two-speed 7kW battery that gives the scooter 200 km (124 mph) of autonomy under ideal conditions, while official speed reaches 80 km/h (about 50 mph).

The TQi-GT is the most advanced technology vehicle NIU has built to date and includes Level 2 autonomous driving features, such a self-parking, collision detection, Adaptive Cruise system Control (ACC), and automatic balance. In order to provide additional safety features for urban drivers, the TQi-GT is also equipped with an anti-lock braking system.

The NIU has not yet provided details on how automatic parking or auto-balance work, while the ACC and detection of potential collisions are easier to understand.

In appearance, the TQi-GT is reminiscent of the legendary BMW C-1, with just one more wheel in the front. It has a roof and a huge windscreen – something that adds comfort by protecting up to 2 occupants from inclement weather and also increases their safety. But, we can see there are no windshield wipers, which should be changed by the NIU, as in heavy rain, the rider will not be able to see clearly.

At the same time, the TQi-GT comes equipped with 24/7 5G IoT connectivity; the user can lock, unlock, and start the scooter from their smartphone. In addition, just like NIU RQi-GT electric motorcycle, the electric three-wheeler can receive over-the-air software updates.

Series production of the new tricycle will start in the second half of 2020 and will be available to customers a few months later. Prices were not disclosed.
